MIRI (July 25): There was no significant congestion at Puspakom Miri with the national rollout of Tax Identification Number (TIN) required for commercial vehicle inspection today.
Miri MP Chiew Choon Man attributed this to the online appointment system where vehicle owners can schedule appointments and make payments before visiting Puspakom for inspection.
“Based on the observations, there are several vehicles queuing up for inspection, but there is no severe jam or traffic congestion,” he said.
Commercial vehicle owners here had earlier on said they were caught by surprise with Puspakom’s recent announcement that they are required to produce a Tax Identification Number (TIN) for all transactions via MyPuspakom and at its branches nationwide.
Corporate customers must provide their TIN, company registration number, and Sales and Services Tax (SST) number, while individual customers need to provide their identity card number and TIN.
Puspakom had announced the new requirement on Monday this week, saying it aligns with the Inland Revenue Board’s implementation of the electronic invoicing (e-invoice) system
According to Chiew, the public can make appointments and payments via www.mypuspakom.com.my, where they can select the services they need and enter their TIN and SST numbers.
Puspakom now operates a cashless system.
“Therefore, the new policy will not significantly impact the queues at Puspakom. According to Puspakom, the inspection time for both small and heavy vehicles is typically within 10 minutes if the vehicle is in good condition,” Chiew pointed out.
For special vehicles like school buses, fire trucks and ambulances, if an appointment has been made but the drivers cannot arrive at the scheduled time, they can contact Puspakom and provide the necessary details to reschedule the appointment.
