SIBU (Nov 2): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch is set for a seamless transition of leadership at the forthcoming triennial general meeting (TGM) on Nov 9.

Its chairman Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew expressed his immense pride in the discipline and cohesiveness displayed by the branch’s multiracial membership, who has consistently placed the well-being of the community and the strength of the party above personal ambitions.

This, he added, is attributed to the party members’ shared vision and collective sense of duty.

“I am not seeking re-election as the branch chairman because I believe it is time to pass the baton to a younger leader.

“With their high energy and innovative ideas, the new generation of leaders is well-positioned to take our mission forward and serve the people of Bawang Assan with renewed vigour,” he said.

He announced this with a deep sense of fulfilment as the branch, under his leadership, had thrived on the principles of inclusivity, teamwork and strong commitment to addressing the concerns of all constituents, regardless of race or background.

“These principles have been instrumental in fostering a harmonious and effective working environment within the branch, ensuring that the party’s goals align seamlessly with the needs of the people.”

Lau stepped up as leader of the Bawang Assan branch when it was in ashes after several leaders left the party and the branch. He nursed the party back to life during his more than a decade long leadership.

“We have built something remarkable here. Our members come from all walks of life and represent the diverse tapestry of our community, yet we have always managed to find common ground in our shared purpose of service,” he remarked.

“Leadership is not about holding onto power, but empowering others to continue the work. I am confident that the younger generation will lead with integrity, compassion and a genuine desire to uplift our community,” he said.

Meanwhile, the total number of candidates for the branch positions in the Branch, Women, and Youth sections was less than the number of available positions.

Ting reminded all eligible SUPP Bawang Assan branch members to attend the TGM, which will be held at the branch office at 6F-6H, Jalan Kampung Datu.

“The Youth Section will have its meeting and election at 1pm; the Women’s Section will hold theirs at 2pm; and the Branch will hold theirs at 3pm.”
