KUCHING (Sept 11): Independent film ‘Love Crush’ employs a production crew that consists of 80 per cent Sarawakians, marking it as a significant milestone for the state’s growing creative industry, said Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

In praising the production team, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting the state’s talent to the world.

“I am delighted to see Sarawak attracting experienced industry professionals, such as Love Crush director Johan Chairil, who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with our local talents and production crew.

“Collaborations such as these are crucial in nurturing our creative ecosystem and provide homegrown talents the opportunity to learn from the best,” he said during a press conference here yesterday.

He also highlighted the importance of providing emerging talents in Sarawak’s creative industry a platform to develop their skills and showcase them internationally.

“We don’t want our talents to only remain in Sarawak. They should aim to go beyond, nationally and internationally,” he said.

Produced by Teeb TV Networks SdnBhd and Hamsa Media PLT, the film features local Sarawakian talents such as Joshua James, Agnes Jabin and Rowena Jala, in scenes shot in key locations across Kuching and Bau.

“The state government recognises the immense potential within our state and are dedicated to provide the necessary resources, infrastructure, and platforms available to empower our creative talents,” said Snowdan.

Thus, he encouraged members of the state’s creative industries, particularly the film sector, to apply for grants from his ministry to support their initiatives.

Meanwhile, Johan expressed his excitement towards the state’s potential as a film location.

“Sarawak, with its breathtaking natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and diverse communities, offers incredible opportunities for filmmakers.

“By showcasing the beauty and unique character of Sarawak, we hope to inspire more filmmakers to explore this remarkable destination,” he said.

Johan has been travelling between Tokyo, Japan and Kuching since January to develop the project.

The filming of ‘Love Crush’ commenced on Sept 1, and is expected to be completed by this month’s end. It is scheduled to premiere next year.
