MIRI: The younger generation in Sarawak is being urged to develop their talents, expertise and skills to face an increasingly challenging future.

Deputy Minister of Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, made the call at the closing of the Festival of Youth 2024 at Miri City Fan on Saturday.

He highlighted the importance of a creative, talented and skilled youth in preserving the national identity, customs, culture and religion for future generations.

“Competitive youth in the creative industry and performing arts are just as vital as those in education, careers and health for maintaining the nation’s prosperity and shaping its socio-economic and political landscape in line with the core values of Madani Malaysia,” said Snowdan.

The Festival of Youth 2024, organised by BEM Youth Services (PPP BEM), aimed to help young individuals develop themselves and their talents to face future challenges.

The event drew nearly 3,000 people, featuring a performance by \Malaysian singer Jaclyn Victor, who delivered spiritual songs and tracks from her album to an enthusiastic audience.

Snowdan also stressed the role of youth in promoting harmony and unity in a multicultural society.

He encouraged young people to cultivate mutual respect, good manners and a strong sense of identity.

“The younger generation’s positive behaviour can inspire the community to practice politeness, mutual respect and noble behaviour,” he noted.

He also urged youth to adhere to religious teachings as a way to manage daily life’s pressures with positivity and calmness.

He pointed out that faith, along with emotional support from family, friends, and the community, can help prevent and overcome mental health issues while promoting an active, clean and optimistic lifestyle.

The Festival of Youth, which began on July 26, culminated on Saturday, marking a successful celebration of youth talent and potential in Sarawak.

To support these efforts, Snowdan also announced an allocation of RM30,000 to the event.
