KOTA KINABALU (Oct 5): The stable socio-political situation in Sabah will facilitate the fair and equal distribution of the state’s economy, income and wealth, said Sabah Governor Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

He said resources, natural wealth, and economic potential can be shared by providing equal opportunities to the people to help reduce the imbalance between classes and races.

“This is to achieve a more balanced social and economic well-being as the key to ensure inclusive growth to improve the people’s living standards,” he said in his speech at an investiture ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu here on Saturday.

He is confident that the people will not be left behind in benefiting from the hopes and aspirations of the Sabah government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The state government’s dedication and strong commitment to bringing development and progress to Sabah are evident through various initiatives, particularly in providing basic facilities for the people, he said.

“Consistent and coordinated efforts, supported by strong relations between the state and federal governments, will undoubtedly ensure success in achieving development goals and improving the quality of life for the people,” he said.

He called on all parties, including the private sector, the community and non-governmental organisations in Sabah to work together to achieve sustainable development.

The people of Sabah, he said, should continue to preserve and defend the nation’s sovereignty, and reminded them not to ever compromise in matters that could threaten national security and public order.

He also urged all levels of society to always be vigilant and proactive in conveying information to the authorities about dubious activities, apart from being the “eyes and ears” of the government to address crimes including cybercrime and fraud.

Every citizen must take on the responsibility of ensuring that unity remains strong, serving as a fortress to defend the nation’s independence and propel Sabah and Malaysia toward becoming high-income regions, he added.

He reminded the people that racial unity can pave the way to greater success for Sabah.

“Any actions by irresponsible individuals to fuel racism, hatred and enmity should be stopped. Unity among races should be maintained at all times,” he said.-Bernama
