SIBU (Aug 4): All elected representatives, government officials and community leaders ought to work hand in hand towards serving their communities better, said Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) senior vice-president said although public servants had to cope with the competing demands from the public, it was important that they strove to give their best to the people.

“Sibu is a large division encompassing Kanowit and Selangau districts, so let us all play our respective roles to do everything we can to help,” he said in his speech at a welcoming dinner for new Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman and new Sibu District Officer Wee Teck Min, at a hotel here on Friday.

Hosted by PDP Central Region, the event was also attended by senior vice-president II and Meluan state assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin, PDP Central Region chairman Dato Lau Cheng Kiong and his deputy Datuk Teo Boon Siew, who was also the dinner’s organising chairman.

Also attending were two political secretaries to Sarawak Premier, Joshua Ting and Brian Fung, as well as Selangau District Officer Yalin Asan.

Adding on, Wong also expressed hope that the Sibu Resident and Sibu District Officer could serve in their respective offices here for as long as possible before advancing in their careers.

Meanwhile in his remarks earlier, Abang Mohamad Porkan called for cooperation from the grassroots leaders and elected representatives to work together in developing Sibu.

“I need all of you to help me develop Sibu, so that I would not be alone. I highly need your cooperation to provide the best services here,” he said.
