MIRI: The Sarawak Oil Palm (SOP) Foundation reaffirms its commitment to community development by providing 157 residents from three longhouses in Suai here with brand new eyeglasses.

This initiative falls under the ongoing Vision Care Project, a programme aimed at promoting eye health and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the region.

The handover ceremony, which took place on Tuesday (Dec 12), marked a significant milestone in SOP Foundation’s dedication to community welfare.

The Vision Care Project commenced with eyes and health screening on Oct 12, 2023, at Rh Andam Wing. Over 200 participants from three longhouses, namely Rh Andam Wing, Rh Juan Suim, and Rh Libau Usang, participated in the event.

SOP Foundation collaborated with the Ministry of Health Malaysia, receiving support from Miri Division Health Office, Bekenu Health Clinic, Batu Niah Health Clinic, Suai Tegageng Health Clinic, as well as Spec Shop Sdn Bhd.

According to senior estate manager Shoffian Jalil, SOP Foundation is committed to spreading awareness about health and the quality of living for people residing in the vicinity of SOP’s operations.

The Vision Care Project has proven instrumental in lowering the risk of preventable blindness amongst the community, making a tangible impact on the lives of those involved.

These initiatives encompass a wide range of areas, including education, healthcare, disaster relief, and more. SOP’s dedication to the wellbeing of local communities reflects its ongoing commitment to making a positive impact.
