KUCHING (July 7): The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak will assist Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students who scored at least 10As and whose appeal to enter matriculation or public university foundation programme have been rejected.
Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who is DAP Sarawak chairman, said those wishing to seek the party’s assistance in making the appeal to the Ministry of Education (MoE) must compile all the necessary information in a single PDF file.
“The information must include name, MyKAD number, SPM result slip, Pentaksiran Aktiviti Jasmani, Sukan dan Kokurikulum (PAJSK) slip – a standardised marking scheme of extracurricular, and whether they have applied under University Admission Unit (UPU).
“We will help to forward your appeals to the Minister of Education or the Deputy Minister of Education personally on Tuesday (July 9),” said Chong in a statement yesterday.
He said it was ‘most unacceptable and unfair’ to the students who scored 10As that their applications were still rejected, despite the announcement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, guaranteeing them a place in the university matriculation programme.
“It seems that the MoE has yet to make the necessary adjustments to be in line with the policy announced by the Prime Minister.
“Nevertheless, as we are attending Parliament sitting in the coming two weeks, surely this issue will be brought up should the public announcement made by the Prime Minister are not carried through by the MoE,” he added.
Nonetheless, Chong pledged that DAP Sarawak would assist in handing in the appeals to the Education Minister personally in Parliament, upon having received and compiled the appeals.
He also urged those wishing to appeal to submit the necessary documents to DAP Sarawak as soon as possible.
The affected students are advised to submit their appeals to Michael Kong whose contact number is 013-819 9191, Sim Kiat Leng (016-426 2210), George Lam (011-2518 1872) and Jordan Soo Tien Ren (010-805 8276).
