ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING, 24 Sept: The Election Commission (EC) received 18 protest representations during the period of the Federal and State Sarawak Constituency Confinement Examination conducted till 30 September.
SPR Chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said that the majority of the objections received so far related to the proposal to move voting districts from one area of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to another DUN area.
According to him, there are also some representations related to the name of DUN area, but all views will be examined before the border check is finalized.
"Any amendment or modification to the original proposal will be considered on the basis of information and views received.
"All parties are encouraged to present their views either in the form of objections, support or suggestions to help SPR finalize the study", he said.
He said this during a media briefing at the Syor Exhibition Study of Sarawak State Border Seminar here today.
Ramlan said that so far no objections have been received requiring a massive review of the proposed boundary.
He said that SPR is currently monitoring the implementation of a month-long exhibition held at 44 locations across Sarawak from September 1.
"After the 30 days are over, we will evaluate all representations from voters and people to re-evaluate.
"According to practice, after our representation is received and valued, we will re-exhibit before our score is finalized", he said.
He said some SPR teams also conducted monitoring at exhibition sites including Lundu, Samarahan and Padawan to ensure the process is going smoothly.
"After the evaluation process and reexamination, the completed border check will be brought to Parliament for further action", he said.
