KUCHING (Aug 2): Thirty-one former students of St Teresa’s School here from the Class of 1974 commemorated their 50th anniversary since leaving Form 5 with a 5-day, 4-night getaway to Penang and Hatyai and Phatthalung in Thailand from July 19 to July 23.

Reunion organiser Tan Siew Hiang said a few months of planning went into organising the trip.

“The group comprised students from the Science, Arts 1, and Arts 2 classes, with a few flying in from Australia and the United Kingdom. Some of us have not seen each other for 50 years since leaving Form 5.

“It was indeed a very happy reconnection, rebonding, renewed friendship, new memories, and remembering old school days,” she said in a statement.

Special T-shirts with the school badge and the rooster logo, symbolising the Class of 74’s birth year of the Chinese Zodiac, were made and sponsored by Borne Exploration Tours & Travel SB.

“Besides sightseeing, a gala dinner themed ‘Shade of Gold’ was held, featuring fun games, dancing and singing.

“There was lots of laughter during the trip, and many happy memories were created,” Tan added.

She said there were several reunions in previous years prior to this getaway.

In 2007, a grand dinner was held here where many gathered to celebrate their 50th birthdays, with their former school teachers also in attendance.

In 2014, a reunion dinner here marked the 40th Ruby Anniversary since leaving Form 5, with about 80 former students and school teachers attending.

The 2017 reunion included a day outing to local places of interest such as Bako, Orchid Gardens, and Borneo Museum House, culminating in a dinner at Siniawan Old Bazaar.

“In 2020, another day outing to Koloyan Cottage in Bau featured fun-filled activities like swimming in nearby streams, local music, dancing, and enjoying local food.

“In 2022, the reunion group ventured to Serian and nearby places, including Ranchang Pool and the Mongkok longhouse, where we enjoyed traditional dancing and food,” said Tan.
