SERIAN: St Theresa’s Church has refuted allegations circulating on social media that its representatives are engaged in unauthorised carolling activities while collecting funds in public spaces.

In a statement, the church clarified that no individual or group affiliated with St Theresa’s Church Serian has been authorised to solicit funds in public areas.

Photos show Christmas carollers singing festive songs and collecting funds from patrons at various eateries.

“We have received reports of individuals purporting to be from a church choir engaging in Christmas carolling while raising funds.

“These individuals do not represent St Theresa’s Church Serian or the youth in this parish.

“We appeal to the relevant authorities to take note, as such issues seem to happen almost every year,” the church stated on its Facebook page today (Dec 7).

Viral photos depicted Christmas carollers singing festive songs and collecting funds from patrons at various eateries in Serian.

Concerns raised by netizens prompted suggestions for the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, aiming to deter irresponsible individuals from exploiting the church’s name for personal gain.

Some comments also advocated for carollers to carry permits from their respective churches when engaging in carolling activities and fundraising in public places.
