KUCHING (Oct 11): Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Works personnel for their dedication in completing the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Jalan Haji Baki upgrading project.

Chong said he was pleased to attend the project’s handover ceremony today, officiated by Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

According to him, the school, located in his parliamentary constituency, was previously an old wooden structure before the upgrade.

“In 2019, when Pakatan Harapan first became the government, an allocation of RM18.3 million was approved for the upgrading of the school building to the current four-storey reinforced concrete structure.

“The construction project commenced in 2022 and, after two years and two months, has finally been completed. With the new school building, students at SK Jalan Haji Baki can now enjoy a more comfortable environment to study,” said Chong in a statement.

He added that the school not only serves Kampung Haji Baki but also nearby areas such as Kampung Stakan, Kampung Batu Perak, Kampung Padawan, and even those in the Penrissen Camp.

“On behalf of the people and residents in the area, I express my gratitude to the Ministry of Works, Ministry of Education, and the contractor for their diligent efforts in completing the project, which can now be enjoyed by both teachers and students,” he said.

For the record, the project is part of Ministry of Education (MoE) initiatives entrusted to the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia as the implementing agency, with the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) responsible for executing the project.
