KUCHING (Oct 1): State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki has urged members of the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) to unite and accelerate their efforts to support the vision, aspirations, and action plan of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his cabinet.

Mohamad Abu Bakar noted that the Premier is moving at a fast pace, and therefore, the SCS should match this speed to ensure all projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) are completed on schedule.

“The most important thing is that we need to be united. If there is an issue you want to share, either together or personally with me, please do so.

“We must be seen as relevant. We need to move as a team,” he was cited by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) as saying during the One Team Retreat (OTR) 2024 programme held at a leading hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei today.

He also warned department heads about the potential presence of ‘little Napoleons’ within their teams, emphasising that these individuals might create their own policies without their leaders’ knowledge, thereby causing difficulties to those who approach them for solutions.

Mohamad Abu Bakar reiterated that heads of departments must take responsibility for their jurisdictions.

“As a leader, you are responsible for what happens. You need to be proactive in dealing with issues and ensure smooth operations in your respective departments.

“This responsibility includes ensuring that your staff and department perform well, as the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) will evaluate it strictly,” he added.

While congratulating the heads of departments who completed their projects on time, he also highlighted the issue of several projects that have not yet been implemented according to schedule.

“Projects for the people, such as roads and bridges, are very important because they will help improve our standard of living.

“It is crucial for all projects to be strictly monitored by the departments and agencies involved to ensure they can be completed on schedule,” he stressed.

Regarding the OTR programme, he explained that it serves as a platform for SCS members to connect positively with each other.

“This is a platform for you to present and share new ideas, gather, and discuss issues and concerns involving SCS members,”

The programme is being held in the Brunei capital city for three days, from Oct 1 to 3.
