KUCHING (July 20): The Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos) has called for more direct flights between Singapore and Sarawak.

Chief executive officer (CEO) Chew Chang Guan was cited in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report as saying that the request was aimed at increasing the frequency of existing flights, which had been consistently full.

“Up to May this year, 24,000 visitors from Singapore had travelled to Sarawak, marking a 15 per cent increase over the number recorded last year.

“Many have also told us that the flights to Sarawak are always full, so we are now working on discussing with airlines to increase the frequency of flights between Singapore and Sarawak,” he told reporters during his visit to the Borneo Fest 2024-Sabah and Sarawak in Singapore exhibition at Marina Square, Singapore, on Friday.

Meanwhile, Statos deputy CEO Putrie Rozana Soraya highlighted Kuching, Miri and Sibu as among the preferred destinations.

“I consider Kuching, Miri, and Sibu to be major entry points for visitors from Singapore. Each destination has its own unique features.

“Additionally, we provide diverse offerings at each location,” she said.
