KUCHING, Feb 16: A more strategic site has been chosen for a high-level water tank in Kampung Tanjong Bundong, highlighting the urgent need to improve water supply for the 834 homes across Phases 1 to 4.

Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the new location is within the residential area, which is closer to the community than the previously proposed site in the industrial zone.

“With 834 homes relying on the local water supply, including 337 in Phase 4 alone, the high-level tank is essential,” he said during a working visit to the village today.

An audio recording of the minister’s speech was later shared with DayakDaily.

Highlighting the need for swift action, Julaihi urged Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd and the Land and Survey Department (JTS) to move quickly on site approval and construction. He stressed that water is a basic necessity and that the project must begin without delay to benefit the community.

In addition to the tank, the minister noted that a new pipeline from Kampung Tanjong Bundong Tradisi has been tendered following State allocation approvals. This pipeline is part of broader efforts to improve water supply infrastructure in the area.

“Sarawak has set aside RM1.1 billion over five years for water supply projects statewide, including RM214 million this year, which is prioritised for replacing old pipes and upgrading systems to stabilise supply and improve pressure.

“Time is of the essence. We will monitor progress closely to ensure the tank is completed promptly for the benefit of the community,” he added. — DayakDaily
