SIBURAN: Students have been told to acquire knowledge and to equip themselves with the digital skills that are highly needed in today’s era.

Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, the deputy chairman of Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) Board of Trustee, said Sarawak is still in dire need of a highly skilled workforce.

“The job opportunities are there, however we still lack highly skilled graduates to fill the positions.

“Take the opportunities available by finding out from institutions the courses they offer to determine the direction of your further education,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the TEGAS Project of Dream Realised Roadshow (PRO-DR) 2024 at Siburan Community Hall here today.

Dr Jerip, who is the Deputy Transport Minister (Aviation and Road) and Mambong assemblyman, stressed that parental support is very important in encouraging their children to pursue further studies.

“The success of parents reflects the success of their children.

“This is the true concept of excellence when linked to the role of parents in helping their children excel. Parents are closer to their children compared to others.

“Therefore, TEGAS always emphasises the participation and support of parents in all their programmes,” he added.

In the meantime, TEGAS chief executive officer Udin Bujang said the PRO-DR programme is one of the platforms for students seeking knowledge, in addition to spreading the information related to education and career opportunities in various fields from different institutions.

“The objective of this programme, which brings together 20 agencies under one roof or in other words, a one-stop centre, is to provide the latest information to target groups such as students in the Siburan and Serian areas, particularly parents, teachers, and the community.

“This information is important as it includes various current courses closely related to the modern job market.

“Additionally, students can learn about funding for those who have completed SPM or STPM at the foundation, diploma, and bachelor’s degree levels at any higher education institution (IPT) as well as skill certificates and diplomas,” he said.
