KUCHING (Aug 15): A total of 12 gold medals will be up for grabs at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 today in three events, road cycling, tenpin bowling and wushu.

Tenpin bowling, which is scheduled to commence at Megalanes Emart, Batu Kawa here, will offer two gold medals each for the women’s and men’s individual events.

Overall, 11 gold medals are on offer in tenpin bowling, which will take place over six days in this edition.

Meanwhile, Lebuh Raya Pehin Sri Adenan Satem will continue to be the focus for the second day of road cycling events, featuring the individual men’s and men’s team road races, each offering two gold medals.

Participants are expected to start their 144-kilometre ride at 9am.

The wushu arena at Dewan Wushu SSC, Petra Jaya, will also be a major attraction today, offering eight gold medals in the taolu discipline, following the six gold medals contested yesterday.

Additionally, the 5×5 basketball tournament will kick off at the Stadium Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan (MBKS) Pending, starting at 9.30am today.

Lawn bowls, which began two days ago at Arena Lawn Bowls Sarawak here, will see the semifinals for women’s singles, women’s fours, men’s pairs, and men’s triples.

The men’s T20 cricket matches will continue with preliminary rounds today at the Padang Kriket & Rabgi Petra Jaya.

Cricket offers two gold medals each in the men’s and women’s categories, with the women’s tournament starting on Sunday.

Also starting today is the Muay Thai competition at Paragon Mall, Bintulu, which will run until Aug 20 and offer a total of 18 gold medals.

In Miri, softball will officially begin at the Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKNB) football field for men and at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Merbau for women.

Sukma 2024 offers 488 gold medals across 37 sports, with all events taking place at 50 competition venues in nine divisions in Sarawak – Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri.

A total of 9,927 athletes from across the country have confirmed their participation in the biennial Games, with Brunei as an invited contingent.

Sarawak is hosting Sukma for the third time, having previously done so in 1990 and 2016. – Bernama
