KUCHING, Aug 12: A total of 7,500 free tickets to the opening ceremony of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 were all given out in just four hours today.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), members of the public have started queuing as early as 6am at the Stadium Sarawak despite knowing that the distribution of admission tickets will only begin at 10am.

About ten ticket counters were opened, and the public had to go through three stations in total, where they had to queue up outside the stadium first, followed by a pre-registration station, and then collect the tickets at the last station.

At the pre-registration station, the ticket recipient needs to scan the QR code to fill in their information, such as full name, identification number, and phone number.

For ticket collection, each individual can only claim a maximum of four tickets.

Around 2pm, there were still many people queuing for the admission tickets, but they had to go home empty-handed when the 7,500th ticket was given away.

However, another batch of 7,500 tickets will be distributed tomorrow (Aug 13) from 10am onwards.

Sukma 2024 will commence from Aug 17 to 24, with 37 sports events contested in nine divisions—Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri.

The opening ceremony of Sukma 2024 will take place at Sarawak Stadium, Petra Jaya, on Aug 17.

The event is expected to be able to cater for 30,000 people, with over 10,000 seats allocated for athletes and notable guests.

The event will also be broadcast live at the Celebration Square (outside Sarawak Stadium) by RTM, TVS and UKAS. — DayakDaily
