MIRI (Aug 22): National Sports Council (MSN) management board member Alan Ling expresses his disappointment over the unruly behaviour by pencak silat spectators at the Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday, where a water bottle was believed to have been thrown into the arena during a match.

To prevent further disruptions, the competition had to be carried on without spectators and with the presence of police officers.

“I have received feedback from the public, of which many express their disappointment for not being able to come to the stadium and show their support,” Ling told a press conference today.

“Their irresponsible acts had indeed taken away the rights of those who would want to enjoy watching the sports event,” he said, adding that the police are currently pursuing a thorough investigation into the incident.

In Sarawak’s bid to host the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Ling said such incidents should be avoided at all costs as it could have a negative impact on Sarawak’s image and reputation, and Miri in particular.
