Gloomy weather conditions at Marina Bay today.

MIRI (Aug 22): Light showers and inconsistent wind patterns forced two sailing races for the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI) scheduled here for 10am today to be postponed.

Principal race officer Abdul Halim Hassan said he is still waiting for a report from the race officer at sea on whether the situation has improved.

“Once we receive report from the race officer that the winds have stabilised, we will take down the AP flag to signal that the race will resume.

“We expect that today’s races will start at 12pm or 1pm,” he said.

As of yesterday, eight races across 13 categories have been completed.

There are still four more races for all the categories that need to be completed before Saturday’s finals.

“We want to finish two races today and the last two races will be held tomorrow.

“But, if today’s weather doesn’t permit, we will do three races tomorrow and the last one on Saturday morning,” Abdul Halim said.

Sailing is offering 14 gold medals this Sukma, with one bagged by Kedah yesterday in the Optimist team category.

Sabah took the silver medal, while Sarawak finished with a bronze.

The prize presentations for all 14 categories in sailing will be held at Marina Bay on Saturday.
