Sukma XXI: Sarawak makes history winning state’s first two sailing gold medals

MIRI (Aug 23): Sarawak made history today after clinching its first two gold sailing medals at the Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Sarawak had never won any medal in the sailing event in the previous Sukma.

On top of that, the state sailing squad also bagged two silver and two bronze medals from the events today.

The gold medals came from pair Syahzharoul Aiman Rozaiman and Muhammad Amirul Aqmal Aslan and pair Nurul Shazwanie Mohd Saad and Nur Asma Syahrizan in the International 420 (Men and Women’s category) respectively.

Meanwhile, the silver medals were contributed by Eric Owen Tan Chang Fook and Nur Alya Husna Mohd Tariki in the Men’s ILCA 7 and Women’s RS One category respectively.

Sarawak’s bronze medal came from Muhammad Yusuf Abdullah in the Men’s RS One category.

The sailing squad had on Wednesday won a bronze medal in the Optimist team category, bringing the total medals to two gold, two silver and two bronze as of today.

Sarawak’s best performance in Sukma was one silver medal in the 2016 Sukma in the Men’s RS One category, another silver in 2018 Sukma (Men’s Techno 293 category) and a bronze medal in the 2022 Sukma in the Men’s RS One category.

Tomorrow (Aug 24), the sailing event offers two last gold medals in the Optimist category (Men and Women).
