SRI AMAN: The preparations for the venues for the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) are on the right track and satisfactory.
Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said he is pleased with the progress of the venues and that athletes can begin their training once all the equipment is provided.
“I am satisfied because the Sukma venues are spacious, and the preparations are in full swing.
“We hope that the sports equipment can be delivered as soon as possible so that it can be used for training by the Sarawak contingent.”
Rentap, who is also the Sarawak contingent chef de mission, said this to reporters after visiting the Serian Convention Centre (SCC) and the Indoor Stadium at the Sri Aman Sports Complex here on Wednesday (July 10).
Elaborating on the progress at the Indoor Stadium, he said the renovation work on the stadium is in its final stages and only requires some minor touch-ups.
“The Indoor Stadium in Sri Aman has been renovated and refurbished, and now it only needs some minor touch-ups. I feel that this place will become a hot spot during the boxing event later.”
He added that Sarawak is targeting six gold medals from the boxing event.
Earlier in the morning, he also visited the SCC to inspect its progress.
The SCC will be the venue for the artistic gymnastics event, where approximately 400 athletes, volunteers, and technical staff will be based in Serian during the event.
