On 29 July, the Sunway-Rapid KL Good Run 2024 saw 10,000 participants run for a charitable cause
The event was held in conjunction with Sunway Group's 50th anniversary celebration which spans the entire year, and took place in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.
The run was split into three categories including a 5km course, a 10km course, and a 21.1km half-marathon.
Runners were flagged off by Subang Jaya state assemblywoman YB Michelle Ng at Sunway Geo Avenue. Other VIPs in attendance included Sunway Group CEO of Digital and Strategic Investments Evan Cheah, Sunway Healthcare Group president Dato' Lau Beng Long, Prasarana Malaysia President and Group CEO Encik Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, and Rapid Bus COO Encik Ku Jamil Zakaria, among others.
At the venue, a race village was set up with fun activities and educational booths from Sunway Theme Parks, Sunway Healthcare Group, Sunway Property, UNICEF, Rapid KL, and more.
The event successfully raised over RM430,000 for five different charities in Malaysia
The organisations that benefitted from the race included UNICEF, Generating Opportunities for the Learning Disabled (GOLD), National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Women of Will, and Rumah Perlindungan Darul Ukhwah.
"Sunway Healthcare Group is passionate about the health of our communities, touching lives from the cradle to the elderly.
"With the rise of non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, obesity, and diabetes, we need to emphasise the importance of a healthy lifestyle more than ever," Lau Beng Long said.
"Hence, we're pleased to support this run which encourages the young and old to be physically active, with the proceeds of the run to be donated to those in need."
Rapid Bus CEO Muhammad Yazurin Sallij said "We are proud to partner with Sunway Group this year for the Sunway-Rapid KL Good Run 2024, timely with Rapid KL's 20th anniversary. This has given us the opportunity to be part of an important cause in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, while strengthening our brand connection with the community."
Sunway also plans to keep up its community focus under the #SunwayforGood umbrella with more charitable events
In September, the group will carry out a Meal Pack-a-thon in collaboration with Rise Against Hunger, a non-profit organisation that addresses food security. During this event, the group hopes to achieve its target of packing 2 million meals for underserved communities in Malaysia and beyond.
Additionally, Sunway currently works alongside the Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF) as its official sustainability partner and has plans to help eradicate AIDS by 2030.
As part of this effort, the group also works with the Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) and the Ministry of Health to help ensure access to antiretroviral treatment and psychosocial support for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) as well as B40 communities in Sabah and Sarawak.
