SIBU (July 19): The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development team will discuss with Sarawak Energy to come up with the best solution in dealing with overgrown weeds and vines on overhead power lines in the constituency.
The team’s chairman Councillor Kevin Lau, who led an inspection visit around Bawang Assan with Sarawak Energy personnel yesterday, said felled power lines pose a hazard risk to the people in the area.
“Apart from overgrown weeds and vines, there are several other factors that would fell the power lines, including fallen trees and branches,” said Lau, who is also Sibu Rural District Council Environment and Public Health Standing Committee chairman.
With cooperation from the local residents, the team yesterday managed to collect information and identify locations with overgrown weeds and vines on power lines, before submitting a report to Sarawak Energy for further action.
“We appreciate the cooperation and assistance of the relevant departments of Sarawak Energy, the residents of the Bawang Assan area, and the community leaders.
“We hope to maintain close cooperation in the future to resolve whatever problems there are,” Lau added.
Sarawak Energy’s Overhead Line Maintenance Department engineer-in-charge Felix Law Yi Dong and senior technical supervisor Louis Song Tung Seng were also present during the inspection.
