SIBU (July 24): Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development team with the engineers from Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) yesterday handed over upgrading projects to various contractors yesterday.
According to its team leader councillor Kevin Lau the total amount of the projects is about RM750,000 under the Special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund.
He said the fund was approved by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and SRDC is to be the implementing agency for the projects.
“Last year, we compiled all the projects that are needed in Bawang Assan and submitted the list to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who then submitted our proposal to the Premier and it was approved.
“The projects include upgrading works on car parks at the longhouses and road maintenance at various areas,” Lau, who is also SRDC Environment and Public Health Standing Committee chairman, said, adding the team and SRDC visited these areas on April 19.
“I hope that the projects can be completed as soon as possible for the convenience of the residents there,” he said, adding the team will monitor closely the other RTP projects to be implemented.
The team and the engineers also visited the site for the installation of streetlights as preparation for the scope of works before proceeding to tender the project.
Lau expressed his gratitude for the close cooperation from everyone involved to improve the livelihood of the residents at Bawang Assan.
