SIBU (Oct 13): Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Nangka branch members are urged to pay more attention in resolving issues related to the Sibu community.

SUPP Bukit Assek chairman Dato Chieng Buong Toon said more efforts were needed to address the challenges and difficulties faced by Sibu folk.

“SUPP in Sibu, we have a mayor, deputy minister, people’s representatives, senator, council members and so on. Given all this, Sibu should be able to progress. So, I believe we really need to take this opportunity to truly do something for Sibu,” he said at the SUPP Nangka branch 10th anniversary dinner here.

Chieng was representing SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting.

He said previously, it was difficult for Sibu to make progress as it was under the opposition.

On SUPP Nangka’s 10th anniversary, he said the past 10 years had not been easy for the branch but with the commitment and support from everyone it was able to grow, and he congratulated the branch’s leadership for organising events and bringing the community together.

Meanwhile, SUPP Nangka chairman Chua Beng Seng said the branch had been very active for the past 10 years, organising at least two activities every month.

He said currently, the party has some 800 members and its next goal is to reach 1,000 in membership.

“For the past 10 years, we have given aid to fire victims, flood victims and those who needed our help,” he said.

Chua urged all members to continue to be active and participate in all the activities organised by the party.

Also present were SUPP Pelawan branch chairman Clarence Ting.
