KUCHING (Oct 3): A Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus Doctor of Philosophy (Science) graduate has developed new digital solutions for monitoring and managing coastal water quality in the state.
Jenny Choo Cheng Yi was awarded her PhD during Swinburne Sarawak’s graduation ceremony here today.
The 35-year-old completed her doctorate on a full scholarship from Swinburne after identifying gaps in traditional coastal monitoring methods during her time working at Sarawak Energy Berhad.
“What I’ve done so far, to the best of my knowledge, is we have developed our original digital-based tool using satellite imagery to track and improve our coastal monitoring and management system.
“I have developed a new regional model and applied satellite imagery to track and monitor the water quality within the Sarawak region,” she told The Borneo Post.
The now postdoctoral researcher and part-time lecturer at Swinburne Sarawak hopes to collaborate or partner with both local and international companies.
“For the time being, part of the research project is aligned with the SDEC (Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation) initiative in digitising actions and solutions, where the research was showcased in the previous Idecs (International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak) event,” she added.
