KOTA KINABALU (Nov 18): Tabung Haji (TH) focuses on three Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes through zakat donations.
Its general manager of public affairs and corporate communications, Ahmad Shahriman Johari, said the distribution of CSR Zakat funds is using 100 percent of the zakat money obtained from TH depositors and paid directly to eligible asnaf or the less fortunate.
“The three programs are the Ehsan (community), Iqra (education) and Afiat (health) programs. Last year alone through this programme TH has helped more than 500 thousand asnaf people across the country.
“As an example of the Iqra program, TH has channeled almost RM9 million to all public higher education institutions across the country which has benefited more than 30 thousand selected students.
“This Iqra program focuses on the development of human capital which aims to provide financial assistance and needs to asnaf students who are continuing their education to the higher education level throughout the country,” he said when speaking at the TH Bersama Negeri Sabah 2023 programme here on Saturday.
According to Ahmad Shahriman, the Ehsan program focuses on asnaf groups such as the elderly, single mothers and the disabled to reduce their financial burden.
“The Afiat program is a health CSR program that aims to help patients and hospitals or selected medical service providers in providing medical equipment,” he added.
At the ceremony, there was also a handover of TH CSR cheques to Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) Sabah for the implementation of the “Keningau.fm Community Footprint Programme’ amounting to RM38,800, RM40,000 to the Sabah Private Islamic Kindergarten Association (PERTIS) for the “PERTIS Bersama Asnaf Programme” and RM85,600 to the United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA) for the “Sentuhan Kasih Programme”.
Also present were TH Sabah and Sarawak regional director Datuk Nurlaila Said, TH Sabah director Yusdi Nasip, USIA president Datuk Sapawi Ahmad, Sabah RTM director Salmah Hashim and Sabah Information Department deputy director Supian Musa.
Meanwhile, TH hosted a bowling match with the local media as part of the TH Bersama Negeri Sabah programme which saw a team from the media winning first place in the friendly match.
Nurlaila said the media engagement event aimed to tighten the relationship between media practitioners of Sabah and they planned to visit Sarawak next for another media engagement.
She said this is a big project by TH’s corporate communications division in bettering the relationship between not only the two parties but also non-governmental organisations and other related associations.
Nurlaila said the TH team had also visited the offices of the media fraternity here such as RTM and Bernama, and then continued discussions with other media members including The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo.
“Hopefully we can continue such programmes especially in Sabah and Sarawak,” she added.
