Taekwondo team sweeps clean Freestyle Poomsae gold medals

KUCHING: The Sarawak Taekwondo team continued its excellent performance on the second day of the event by sweeping clean all four gold medals contested in Freestyle Poomsae event yesterday (August 17).

The four gold medals were won in the mixed pair freestyle category, men’s individual, women’s individual, and mixed team events.

Following this success, seven gold medals have now been contributed by the Taekwondo camp, making it the largest contributor of gold medals for Sarawak so far.

The first medal of the day was claimed by the pair of Farah Nabilla Maddarus and Fedealis Kom Twin in the mixed pair freestyle category with a score of 6.24, defeating the pair from Kelantan (4.74), Kedah (4.54), and Pahang (4.26), who took home the silver and joint bronze medals.

The second medal was won by Ken Haw Chin in the men’s individual freestyle category with a score of 7.23, beating participants from Johor (6.77), Sabah (6.10), and Perak (5.73), who won silver and joint bronze medals.

Zara Nur Zafirah Mohd Yusof secured the third gold medal for the Taekwondo camp yesterday in the women’s individual freestyle category with a score of 6.50, defeating participants from Kedah (5.74), Pahang (5.27), and Sabah (5.10).

The fourth medal, showcasing the dominance of the Sarawak Taekwondo camp yesterday morning, was awarded to the trio of Fedealis Kom Twin, Ken Haw Chin, and Randy Owen Augustine Linggi in the open mixed team freestyle category with a score of 7.13, far outscoring the trios from Kedah (5.93), Kelantan (5.80), and Sabah (5.70), who took silver and joint bronze medals.

The Sarawak Taekwondo team will continue its campaign until August 20, with 16 more gold medals up for grabs.
