MIRI (Oct 11): Miri Obesity Prevention Organisation and the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri branch are inviting the public to its health talk on diabetes treatment using traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

The session from 2pm to 4pm is taking place tomorrow at the MRC Training Institute here.

“It is part of our efforts to raise awareness about alternative treatments for diabetes management with a focus on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),” said the organisation in a statement.

The session will be conducted by Jong Kui Chong, a highly qualified and registered TCM practitioner who holds a Master’s degree in Pharmacology from the University of Hertfordshire, UK and who has received numerous accolades in TCM and acupuncture.

Jong is also the president of the Malaysian Council for the Prevention of Obesity, chairman of Miri Obesity Prevention Organisation, and vice-president of Diabetes Malaysia.

“As this session will be conducted in Mandarin, it is tailored for the Mandarin-speaking community, with plans for future sessions in other languages.”

The session, it added, will provide an opportunity for the public to explore the benefits of acupuncture as an alternative approach to managing diabetes, a disease that affects millions of people worldwide.

Meanwhile, MRC said they are pleased to collaborate with Jong on the initiative, which will not only raise awareness about diabetes but also offer practical solutions for patients to manage their health conditions more effectively.

“TCM and acupuncture have been shown to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote overall well-being, making them effective complementary treatments for diabetes.

“Attendees will gain insights into the ancient practices of Chinese medicine and how they can be integrated with modern medical treatments to enhance the quality of life for those living with diabetes.

The first 100 registered participants will receive a free glucose check during the event’s health screening, to promote awareness on the importance of regular monitoring of blood sugar levels for diabetes prevention.

Interested participants can register for the event through the following Google Form https://forms.gle/GpNXMUYmh3gNcM5Y9.
