KUCHING (Jan 12): Residents of Kampung Krusen Kranji and Kampung Krusen Siu in Tebedu, Serian faced water supply disruptions following a landslide triggered by heavy downpours last Thursday.
The main access road in both villages collapsed, while a suspension bridge there was severely damaged due to the landslide, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.
It is believed that the landslide occurred as a result of soil movement and the strong current of the Kayan River.
During a site visit on Sunday, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada advised the residents of Kampung Krusen Siu not to use the damaged suspension bridge.
He warned that the structure is no longer safe and may endanger users.

Dr Sinang said he had instructed the relevant departments and agencies to resolve the matter.
“The Serian Public Works Department (JKR), Serian Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and the Serian Divisional Disaster Management Committee have been instructed to take immediate action.
“They have been told to repair the collapsed road embankment and restore the water supply system for the affected residents,” he said following the visit.
According to Dr Sinang, the authorities concerned are taking follow-up steps to ensure the safety of the local residents, besides restoring communication services and basic facilities in the affected areas.
The damaged road is temporarily closed for everyone’s safety, even though it can still be used by motorcyclists and pedestrians.
