SIBU, September 18: Digital technology has the potential to connect teachers of Maths and Science with students in other schools across Sarawak through a conceptmaster classroomIt's being explored.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, said the approach could help schools that have Math or Science teachers, but there is a shortage of specialised teachers in the subject.
He said that through the concept, experienced teachers in one school can teach students in other schools online, thus allowing teacher expertise to be used more widely.
"For example, there are 10 schools that don't have a math teacher. They have a math teacher, but not an optional math teacher.
"We can connect teachers who can teach Maths in one school with students in other parts of Sarawak so they can interact", he said at the ceremony. The Commemoration of the Sibu Digital Innovation Hub ExpansionHere, today.
Dr Annuar said he had contacted Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) to explore the implementation of the concept, while Sarawak University of Technology (UTS) took responsibility for researching its implementation in Sarawak.
He said the collaboration between SDEC, Sibu Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) and UTS is important in exploring the use of digital technologies to support the delivery of education, especially in the field of Mathematics and Science.
"This effort is not only to increase the interest of students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields but also to ensure that content and knowledge in Mathematics and Science can be more widely communicated to students across Sarawak.
"I think this is important so that equality can be achieved and everyone has the same quality of education across Sarawak", he said.
