Teenager Joshua beats 50 others for Samarahan Country Club golf title

KUCHING (Oct 15): Joshua Lim Zhi Xing became one of the youngest winners of the Samarahan Country Club (SCC) Club Championship which ended last Sunday.

Playing with zero handicap, the 15-year-old Year 10 student of Lodge International School fired an 11-over par 155 gross to outdo 50 others.

Three-time winner (2019, 2020, 2022) Anson Yeo Boon Xiang was 13 years old when he won the title in 2019 while Wesley Chai Wui Chern was 19 when he won last year.

Four strokes further in second place was Junical Ujal while Choo Kueh Fong pipped two-time winner (2013, 2017) Oliver Ting Ing Lieng to third spot on count back (OCB) after both had a similar 159. The fifth placing went to Calvin Soh Soon Kee who returned a two-day total of 165.

Francis Kujat won the men’s nett after carding a two-day total of seven-over par 137 followed by Rozi Yuzop (138), Jalin George (141), Dylan Lai (144) and James Chuo To Sui (145). The men’s nett (handicap 19-32) was won by Richard Rafael Ras (142) while second to fifth spots went to James Sinjeng (146 OCB), Aswandy Anis (146), Muhd Adib Yazid (151) and Richard William Caplice (153).

Winners of the invited guest category were Panther Jap Hor Yu (69 OCB), SCC ladies captain Susan Toh Siok Tin (69) and SCC president Brian Chieng Chai Ung respectively.

Winners of the daily gross prizes were Ismail Mohd Suhaili (Day 1 – 84) and Adday Anyut (Day 2 – 85) while daily nett prizes were Sibat Kallang (Day 1 – 68) and Mohd Ishak Yaakob (Day 2 – 69).

No one picked up the hole-in-one prize of RM20,000 (snowball fund) at Hole 3 and one set of Kuro wedges sponsored by Swing Dynamics at all Par 3 holes.

Among those present at the tournament were SCC patrons Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, SCC president Brian Chien, captain Johnson Tan, secretary Lucas Lai and general manager Perumal Ramasamy.
