Telecom tower generator is on fire.

A generator supplying electricity to a telecommunications tower caught fire in an incident on Walnut Street here this evening.

Sarawak's Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said it received an emergency call at 2.27pm before members of the Siburan Fire and Rescue Service (BBP) arrived on site at 2.58pm.

"When the team arrived at the scene, the fire was found to involve a genset numbered SC 1485.

"The genesis was completely burned, but no casualties were reported in the incident", he said in a statement.

According to JBPM Sarawak, the blackout operation is carried out using an open-source machine pump through a 300 ft flow to the Godiva 8/5 conveyor pump by chain pump method.

Another 800-foot stream along with a nozzle was introduced into the fire area to allow an extinguishing operation.

The fire was completely extinguished using direct attack techniques and operations were controlled at 3.10pm before being shut down at 3.30pm.

Further inspections were carried out to ensure there was no cause of fire before the location was confirmed safe.
