MUKAH: It is always nice to see your local assemblyman showing unwavering support to the football team.
This was the case for Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine who was passionately rallying behind the Sarawak football team.
He was seen together with the 10th division ultras, jumping up and down, cheering the Sarawak team on.
Royston praised the Sarawak men’s football team for their impressive performance and fighting spirit after their 3-2 victory over Pahang in their final Group D match at the Dalat and Mukah Districts Council (MDDM) field on Friday (Aug 16)
Despite failing to advance to the quarter-finals at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) XXI 2024, he emphasised that the Sarawak team remains close to the hearts of the local fans and the people of Sarawak.
“We are impressed with the team’s spirit and the effort shown by the players. They gave their best, though luck was not on their side for qualifying,” he told reporters after the match.
Adding further, as the SUKMA events officially begins, many events are still ongoing which involve the Sarawak athletes.
Royston expressed hope that Sarawak would secure gold medals in upcoming events including netball and judo, which will be held here in Mukah.
He encouraged Mukah residents to attend these events to support Sarawak athletes and help them achieve their goal of winning gold medals.
“I’m confident that (Sarawak will secure) many gold medals, (and) we will emerge victorious at SUKMA,” he added.
Royston also praised the fans for their unwavering support throughout the tournament, pointing out the sportsmanship they displayed towards the Sarawak team.
