KUCHING, Sept. 21: A convenience store on Green Road here burned down last night, with about 35 percent of the front of the premises damaged.

According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak's Operations Movement Centre (PGO), it received a call about the incident at 8.19 pm, teams from Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Hall (BBP) and BBP Padungan were then moved to the scene.

"When the team arrived at the scene, it was discovered that the fire involved a two-story brick building measuring 40 feet by 10 feet.

"The team made the blackout using two 100-foot-long streams and two nozzles", the statement said.

He said the fire was about 35 percent in the front before spreading to the center of the store.

Aerial ventilation in the center and rear of the premises has reduced the risk of fire.

No casualties were reported involved in the incident.

The operation was controlled at 8:30 p.m. and fully terminated at 9:03 p.m. after the condition was confirmed to be safe.

A total of 14 members along with two FRT machines and an EMRS were involved in the operation, in addition to assistance from four members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

The cause of the fire and estimated damage are still under investigation.
