MIRI, Sept 13: Sarawak wants its economic strengths, expertise and resources to continue to be used to strengthen Malaysia.

Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the development of Sarawak is not only aimed at strengthening the state but also as part of efforts to build a stronger and more competitive Malaysia.

According to him, Sarawak is ready to share its capabilities with Sabah, including in the energy and infrastructure development sectors.

"It's not just that we fight for Sarawak. We are fighting for the integrity of Malaysia.

"So we've raised up and we share our wealth with Sabah", he said while addressing the inaugural session of the United Nations Special Convention on Sarawak Party Zone North at the closed Miri Stadium, here today.

Brother Johari said the development of Sarawak's electric grid system which will also be connected to Sabah proves how the power of a state can be utilized for wider benefit.

He said that cooperation between Sarawak and Sabah should continue to be strengthened as the strength of both regions also contributes to Malaysia's stability and progress.

In that context, he stressed the importance of Sabah and Sarawak to have a strong and united voice at the Federal level, in particular in ensuring the interests of both states continue to be given attention in line with the spirit of the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63).

"When we're strong, our voices are strong. If we split, we don't have the same voice", he said.

He said that unity and cooperation between Sarawak and Sabah is not just a matter of territorial interest, but important in forming a stronger Malaysia in terms of economy, development and interregional relations.
