KUCHING, 9 Oct: The General Unemployment Day (Amendment) Bill 2026 will be presented at the 19th session of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) from 12 to 21 October to coordinate the imposition of restricted public holidays.

DUN Sarawak Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, said the amendment was aimed at addressing technical issues related to replacement of leave when two days of general leave fall on the same date, without requiring separate government notification.

He said the bill will be presented by Deputy Minister in Sarawak's Department of Premier (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

"The first reading of the bill will be on the first day of the conference, this Monday, while second and third readings are scheduled for Tuesday", he said at a press conference after the pre-meeting DUN Sarawak here today.

Asfia said the amendments also aimed to update the General Holidays Ordinance to ensure that the replacement of holidays is automatically implemented if public holidays fall on Sunday or coincide with other public holidays.

The conference also saw the presentation of three further government bills, namely the Supply Bill (2027) 2026, the Additional Supply Bill (2026) 2026 and the Sarawak State Library (Amendment) Bill 2026.

He said no notice of proposal from DUN members was received until the deadline for surrender on October 2.
