SEGAMAT, 19 September: Ministry of National Unity (MNU) is ready to review proposals for the National Level Malaysia Day Celebrations to be held in rotation in each state in the future.
Deputy Union Minister, Yuneswaran Ramaraj said that the approach was seen as a good suggestion as it could give more people across the country an opportunity to celebrate the event.
"I think that's a good suggestion. It's also good if we go from state to state, but I think the ministry will look into that proposal first and how we want to implement it", he said.
He said this after inaugurating the KPN's 2026 Community Determination, Sustainable Integration (CDP) Programme through the National Library of Malaysia (PNM) here today.
According to Yuneswaran, the celebration of Malaysia Day in Sabah and Sarawak has significant significance as both regions have a direct connection with the history of Malaysian formation.
However, he said the ministry is open to considering views and suggestions regarding the approach of hosting the event in other states, as long as it meets the objectives of Malaysia Day.
"So, we'll see how we can do it and certainly it will take into account the appropriateness and objectives of celebrating Malaysia Day", he said.
The proposal to hold Malaysia Day in a rotating manner was previously made by the Yang di-Patua of Sarawak State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
He saw that the approach could provide space for people in each state to celebrate the event more fully.
Wan Junaidi also suggested that the history and background of the 1963 Malaysian Agreement (MA63) be highlighted as among the main elements of the celebration to increase public awareness about Malaysia's formation.
According to him, the filling is essential for strengthening understanding of the country's history and fostering a spirit of national unity regardless of race, religion, state or province. - TVS
