KUCHING, 21 Sept: Sarawak State Education Department (JPN) decides to temporarily close all primary and secondary schools under the supervision of Lubok Antu Regional Education Office (PPD) and Kanowit PPD, effective immediately today.
The decision was made based on the Air Pollution Index (IPU) readings recorded as of 9 a.m. this morning.
JPN Sarawak in a statement said that following the closure, the Home Teaching and Learning (HLC) session will be implemented according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MAP) regarding disaster management teaching and learning.
"For schools located near districts with IPU readings exceeding 200, principals and principals may consider the implementation of PdPR taking into account health and safety factors for students.
"If the IPU reading trend shows a decline to below 200, schools can make preparations for reopening schools", the statement said.
Schools were also reminded to adhere to the established standard operating procedures and refer to KPM guidelines regarding measures to ensure the health and safety of pupils in areas considered as critical.
The health and safety of students and teachers should remain a priority throughout the crisis.
