KUCHING, 16 Sept: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg welcomed the Federal Government's agreement to set the representation ratio of the Parliament of Sarawak and Sabah at no less than one-third.
He said the agreement is in line with the provisions of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Intergovernmental Committee Report (IGC), as well as being among important developments in efforts to strengthen MA63 as a national commitment.
"I would like to thank the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has expressed the consent of the Federal Government to set the proportions of representatives of the Sarawak and Sabah Parliaments at no less than one-third", he said.
He said this while addressing the National Level Malaysia Day 2026 in Borneo Kuching Convention Centre (BCCK), here tonight.
According to Brother Johari, the Federal Government's approach that takes into account the potential of Sarawak and Sabah in planning the country's development more evenly is also welcome.
"I sincerely hope that such a commitment will lead to an understanding that the recognition of Sabah and Sarawak's rights and privileges is part of the national agenda", he said.
