BAU, 16 September: Bau Police together with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Telekom Malaysia (TM) are strengthening cooperation to curb cable theft activity in the district.
Chief of the Odor District Police, Superintendent Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the matter was discussed in a meeting with utilities he chaired yesterday, focusing on prevention and detection of the activity.
He said among the measures agreed were sharing information and CCTV footage to help investigate and track suspects.
"Furthermore, patrols and security controls will be enhanced in the quarantine areas as well as locations identified as at risk of being targeted by the activities.
"The meeting also proposed the installation of more CCTV in risky locations to assist monitoring and facilitate enforcement actions", he said.
In the meantime, Mohd Haide said that awareness campaigns and complaint channels will be expanded to encourage people to pass information about suspicious activities on to police.
"The parties involved are also considering a form of reward to the informant who helped lead to the success of the arrest of suspects.
"Cooperation between PDRM, utilities and the community is crucial to combating cable theft which not only causes losses but potentially disrupts electricity supply as well as telecommunications services to the public", he said.
