KUCHING: A jobless man was fined RM1,000 or sentenced to one month in prison by the Magistrate’s Court for possessing tools intended for theft.
Mohammad Shukori Hattar, 45, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Alwi to a charge under Section 35(g) of the Sarawak Minor Offence Ordinance 1958.
The offense occurred at Lorong Keranji 4 around 9.54 am last Thursday (July 18).
According to the charge sheet, a police team noticed a man riding a motorcycle suspiciously around Lorong Keranji 4. When the police attempted to approach him, he sped off. Despite his aggressive attempts to escape, he was swiftly arrested.
Upon inspection, Shukori was found in possession of two screwdrivers, an adjustable knife, two pairs of scissors, and two cable cutters.
During interrogation, he failed to provide a reasonable excuse for possessing the tools at the scene. He also admitted intending to steal cables in the area but did not have the opportunity to do so.
