MIRI (July 24): Three motorcyclists were killed while another was severely injured in three separate accidents here involving sedans and motorcycles between Monday and Tuesday.

District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that the first accident at Jalan Kuala Baram at around 8.30pm on Monday occurred when the car driven by a 49-year-old man and a motorcyclist, aged 26, were both travelling from the direction of Emart Tudan heading towards Kuala Baram.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the motorcyclist, who was riding his machine behind the car, crashed into the back of the vehicle,” he said in a statement last night.

Alexson said the motorcyclist died on the spot due to severe injuries. His motorcycle and the back of the sedan were badly damaged in the incident.

Alexson said the second accident at Jalan Pujut Padang Kerbau here at around 11.30pm on Monday occurred when the car, which was heading towards Vista Perdana collided head-on with a motorcycle ridden by a 27-year-old man.

“Based on investigation, the collision occurred when the motorcyclist lost control of his machine and veered into the opposite direction, causing it to collide head on with the car,” he added.

Alexson said the motorcyclist died at the scene due to severe injuries, while the driver of the sedan escaped unhurt.

In the third accident at Jalan Lusut at around 5.55am on Tuesday, Alexson said it occurred when the car driven by a 37-year-old man was heading towards SMK Luar Bandar from Taman Tunku.

“Upon arriving at the scene, it collided with the motorcycle ridden by a 15-year-old teenager, who had lost control of his machine and veered into the opposite lane.

“The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 13-year-old pillion rider was severely injured,” he added.

The victim, who was injured, was rushed to Miri Hospital, while the driver of the car was unhurt in the incident.

“The cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Alexson.
