KUCHING (Sept 7): Three people were rescued from a teachers’ quarters at SK Sungai Maong at Jalan Stapok here after a fire broke out this evening, completely destroying the unit.

A spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received an emergency call at 6.38pm before mobilising firefighters from the Batu Lintang and Padungan fire stations to the scene.

“The fire involved a three-storey teachers’ quarters block consisting of six housing units. One unit at Level 2 was completely destroyed.

“Firefighters then proceeded to rescue three victims consisting of two women and one man using a ladder while extinguishing the fire,” he said in a statement, adding that all the victims were unscathed.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
