SIBU (July 13): Continuous professional development should ensure that teachers are always updated with modern educational practices and methodologies, Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak Datuk Michael Tiang has said.
Moreover, he regards the teachers as specially-trained individuals, constantly striving for excellence.
“In Singapore, teachers undergo extensive training and professional development to maintain high teaching standards.
“Having trained, knowledgeable and passionate teachers are essential not only to effectively deliver the curriculum but also to inspire and motivate students to reach their full potential,” the Pelawan assemblyman said in his speech for an appreciation ceremony for the learning and student development sectors of Sibu District Education Office today.
Tiang’s text-of-speech was read by Councillor Kevin Lau.
Adding on, Tiang pointed out that educational excellence in each division was crucial as it stood as the foundation for overall development and prosperity of the community.
“It is the basis in which the future of our community is built.
“That is why access to quality education is vital for our children, who are our future,” he stressed.
Tiang added that education in all schools must be inclusive by emphasising equal opportunities to quality education for all students, regardless of background.
“The language of inclusivity is very close to the heart of the Sarawak government. That is why it constantly strives to ensure no Sarawakian is left behind in terms of education.
“The government is committed to providing free tertiary education in 2026 to Sarawakians, regardless of whether they are rich or poor, so everyone will have the same opportunity to go to university and obtain qualifications for the job market,” he said.
Among those present were Sibu MP Oscar Ling and Sibu District Education officer Ahli Chikba.
