TM National Stadium is the site of the closure of SEA Games 2027

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 Sept: TM National Stadium in Bukit Jalil has been confirmed as the venue for the closing event of SEA Games 2027, while the closing location of ASEAN Para Games 2027 is yet to be finalized.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat of Organizers of SEA Sports Malaysia (MASOC) and ASEAN Games 2027 Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said that the decision has been finalized for SEA Games.

"The opening ceremony will continue in Kuching, Sarawak.

"So far (planning) is going well", he said at a press conference with Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2026 organisers here today.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rashid said the organisation of SEA Games 2027 will continue to involve four major clusters: Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor and Penang, although there are three sporting events that will take place at locations outside the cluster.

He said the three locations involved cycling events at Velodrom Nasional, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, cruising in Langkawi, Kedah as well as an endurance equestrian event which is still under discussion to be held in Terengganu.

"If) the National Velodrome is already in Value, so we can't think of Negeri Sembilan as a cluster.

"Endurance equestrian, the best track is in Terengganu because Terengganu does run at least three international events a year. "Langkawi is a great place for sailing", he said.

He said his party will make a visit to Terengganu in the near future to see the level of readiness of the venue for the endurance equestrian event.

Abdul Rashid said that so far the preparations for SEA Games 2027 are underway, including technical aspects, venue and infrastructure.

He said that in Sarawak there are 11 upgraded projects or new venues which are currently about three to four per cent ahead of schedule, with overall progress reaching almost 40 per cent and expected to be completed by the first quarter next year.

He said a total of 43 sports have been designated for the SEA Games 2027, while technical guides are expected to be distributed to Southeast Asian participating countries by October. -TVS
