KUCHING (July 16): The recent Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) training for club officers has emphasised the importance of developing real-world skills for leaders to thrive as well as survive in today’s ever-changing and vibrant global environment.
A press release said the training, themed ‘Dream It, Do It’, took place on July 14 at i-CATS University College here and gathered 79 club officers from various Toastmasters clubs in Kuching.
The training adopted a hybrid format to accommodate participation by online-only clubs that had members from Kuching as well as distant shores, facilitating the active sharing of ideas with a global audience.
The training was organised by Division D of District 87, Toastmasters International.
According to Division D director and Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Lucy Ho Jia Yiing, the division comprised 14 Kuching-based Toastmasters clubs with members from Sarawak, Sabah, Australia, Dubai, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
“Training sessions for club officers are held twice a year. This goes a long way towards enhancing the range and quality of services for our members as they progress along the voyage to develop their communication and leadership skills.
“Each member embarks on his or her personal transformational journey, and as club officers, we work closely with our members to facilitate the achievement of their personal and professional development goals,” she said.
She noted that developing real-world skills included acquiring the right skill set, which comprised a harmonious blend of communication and leadership skills.
“Our club officers have also embraced agility, creativity as well as the latest digital technologies to lead their respective clubs in today’s ever-changing and challenging global environment,” she said.
The training sessions were facilitated by Senior District 87 officers, namely District 87 director and DTM Miranda Rumi for the first session on ‘Leading the Club to Success’ and programme quality director, along with DTM Suharjo Setio who led the second session on ‘Build a Quality Club’.
Meanwhile, Ho and assistant programme quality director Joanna Then facilitated the third session titled ‘Moments of Truth.’
All sessions involved the active participation of the club officers.
