MIRI: PETRONAS kicked off its golden jubilee celebrations in Sarawak on July 27 with the arrival of the ‘PETRONAS Homecoming Torch’ here.

The event marked the first stop of the torch’s nationwide tour.

Noriani Mohamad, Senior General Manager of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Asset (SKA), said the torch symbolises PETRONAS’ evolution from a pioneering to an innovative energy leader.

“It represents our continuous growth and excellence,” she said in a statement.

“More importantly, it inspires the next generation of PETRONAS leaders to build on our legacy and shape the future of the energy industry.”

Noriani added that the torch also celebrates PETRONAS’ contributions to the community.

“It’s a symbol of unity among our employees, stakeholders, and the people in our operating areas,” she added.

The ‘PETRONAS Homecoming Torch’ is part of a nationwide tour called ‘The Journey of the Twin Torches’.
It highlights PETRONAS’ milestones, including its establishment in 1974 and the takeover of the Miri Crude Oil Terminal in 1988.

“These achievements were the foundation of our journey in pioneering oil and gas solutions,” Noriani said.

“PETRONAS remains committed to being a strategic partner to Sarawak in fostering a thriving investment climate in Malaysia.”

To mark the torch’s arrival, SKA organised the ‘Road to PETRONAS 50 – PETRONAS Amazing Race’. The event brought together 25 teams from government agencies and local authorities for a day of competition and networking.

Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, Miri Resident Jamalie Jahi Bursi, and PETRONAS management were among those present at the event.
