Tremors from Philippines’s earthquake felt in Limbang

Government employees at Limbang Plaza evacuate the building and gather at an open space after tremors are felt across the town.

MIRI (July 11): Limbang folks near here reported feeling tremors and could feel the building shaking following the 6.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Mindanao in the Philippines early this morning.

According to a source in the district, the less than one-minute tremor occurred at around 10am and was strongly felt by government employees at the Limbang Plaza building.

The Limbang Plaza building premises housed the Public Works Department office on the eighth floor, the Land and Survey Department (7th floor), the District and Resident Office (6th floor), as well as other affected departments on the fifth and fourth floors.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), meanwhile, reported that the earthquake occurred at a position 154km southeast of Isabela City, Philippines with a depth of 632km.

Following the incident, several tremors were also felt in several areas in Sabah including around Kota Kinabalu, Velvet City, Putatan and some other areas including the northern side of Sarawak.

The earthquake, however, did not trigger a tsunami threat to Malaysia, said MetMalaysia.
